Dessert time! How to make sahlab!

Sahlab is a well known drink/dessert in the Arab world. It’s a thinner version of milk pudding or (Muhalabeya) and it’s so easy to make.

You will need to know how many servings you need, so you have enough for everyone. (Hubby and I always take seconds and the kids wait for it to cool off first then eat as pudding in bowls)

Per serving, you will need 1 cup milk.
For each cup of milk add 1 tbsp each starch and sugar.

Ingredients ( 4 servings with a bit extra)
6 cups milk
6 tbsp starch
6 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla (optional)

Whisk the starch in the cold milk, then add into a pot on medium heat.

You must keep stirring with a whisk or wooden spoon so the bottom doesn’t burn. It will take a good 20 mins for it to start boiling so keep that in mind. (Arm cramps anyone?)

Once it comes to a boil, leave it for a minute or two then pour into serving cups/bowls immediately. Consistency will be like liquid dish soap for lack of better reference. Lol!

Topping:
You can use almost anything you like.
I use:
Coconut flakes
Cinnamon
Chopped Pecans
Chopped peanuts
Chopped almonds
Chopped walnuts
Chopped pistachio
Some sugar
Raisins

Mix it all together in a bowl or ziploc bag, and add a spoonful into each serving cup.

*Note: be sure not to stir the sahlab too much or it will loosen the starch and turn runny… Ekh
